Jackie Stewart OBE
John Cooper has made an immense contribution to the world of motor sport particularly but also to motoring of all kinds. His name is known in all corners of the world. What he did with the Mini was quite extraordinary. It upset all the nice people who were racing in the British Championship in touring cars when the Galaxy and 3.8 litre Jaguars were being made to look pretty silly by these little cars going sideways a fair amount of the time. John Cooper was also responsible for the car that I first drove as a single seater, the Cooper BMC. Ken Tyrrell was to take this car and make it very reliable and easy to handle. With it I won the British Formula 3 Championship, the European Championship and the Grand Prix of Monaco Formula 3 race. John Cooper was not only a great man but he was a very nice man, someone who gave great joy and happiness to many people.
