Monday 10th December 2007
BMW is rumoured to be supporting the 2008 IMM in Holland. A source close to the IMM organisers revealed to MiniWorld that the car manufacturing giant might be supporting the event.
The IMM, which takes place in a different country every year, is to be held at the RDW's Test Centre, Lelystad in the Netherlands between the 9 and 12 May 2008.
It returns to the Netherlands after 16 years and is being organised by the Dutch Mini People. For more information about booking your place visit www.imm2008.nl.
Plans for the 2009 IMM are also well underway. The 2009 events is to be held at Cofton Park, Longbridge, between the 7 and 9 August 2009, bringing Mini fans together for the most important 50th Mini anniversary event of the year.

"The opinion of myself and 20 other classic Mini owning friends is that we would boycott any Mini event sponsored in any way by BMW. They have been heavy handed trying to stop anyone using the Mini name or likeness in their business and it has done them no favours from a classic Mini owners' point of view. A lot of us real Mini owners have used various parts specialists over the years and a lot of these specialists have become good friends. How on earth can any Mini owner sit back and let BMW carry on like this? BMW have even stopped small cottage industry businesses from using or selling most things Mini related, yet still expect to be accepted within the Mini scene. No chance!"

"Even the thought alone of allowing BMW to sponsor the IMM 2008 is a disgrace. I don't think BMW Minis should be allowed anywhere near the IMMs. KEEP IT A CLASSIC Mini SHOW!!!"

"How can BMW be allowed to have anything to do with celebrating anything Mini when they are currently taking legal action against companies selling Mini products. What right do they have to dictate to anyone what they can do with the classic Mini. What's next, making Mini clubs change their names or making MiniWorld change its name?"

Lets hope BMW do sponsor and all the die hard classics boycott, maybe some BMW owners will feel safer without the retards that spoil it for everyone else and all the people with a brain both Classic and New can get on. I used to like Mini shows but they are dull and SOME classic owners spoiled them anyway, so let the devil himself sponsor it. Hell Miniworld take the BMW dollar so why shouldn't the IMM?

"From a New Mini owner I think It's great that BMW are supporting the event and I hope they continue to support a lot more Mini related events. I don't get this hate for the New Minis from the Classic Mini owners, I think it's very petty. Minis can now be loved for many many years to come by generations not even born yet. The Classic Mini was still being produced when BMW took over Rover so technically the sale of last few Classic Minis went to BMW. I belong to East Coast Mini Club and we are one of the only clubs that accept both Classic and New Mini. There is not one member who hates New Mini and vice versa. BMW Mini's are here to stay so deal with it!"
