SC's new 7-Port head

Specialist Components

Tuesday 2nd February 2010

Last week we brought you exclusive pics of MED's newly developed alloy 7-port head. Here's another exciting new development for the A-Series engine; Specialist Components' billet alloy head. You may have seen it on display at Bingley Hall last weekend.

The cylinder head can fitted as a 'simple DIY bolt-on' upgrade and the engine does not need to be removed from the car. If you go for throttle bodies and full engine management then it will also fit within a standard-length Mini bonnet. The price is £1,498.13 inc VAT for a fully assembled head.

^ The 1380cc test engine on a bench dyno produced 121bhp at 7000rpm and a healthy 102lbs/ft torque at 5500rpm.

^ Throttle bodies (fuel injection) allow precise engine tuning when combined with a full engine management system, but it's a more expensive option.

^ Early prototype developments.

It's great to see new developments for the Mini, and engine management technology becoming affordable. Remember to let us know if you or your company are working on something new too.
