Monte Carlo historic update

Peter Barker and Willy Cave on the Monte Carlo Historic Rally

Tuesday 3rd February 2009

Teams on the Monte Carlo Historic rally are now on the 4th day of the testing event, and it's good news so far for most of the Mini entrants.

The leading Mini at the moment is the number 178 Morris Cooper S crewed by Ludovic Bincaz and Andrew Boggis. They are currently in 25th position out of more than 300 entrants. The MiniWorld team, Peter Barker and Willy Cave, are currently in 70th position and 3rd in the Mini rankings.

Their Mk1 Works replica is running well so far although they have a slight misfire. Running very low on fuel at one stage could have pumped mess through the single Weber 45 carb. Team MiniWorld are reluctant to start dismantling the carb as the classic rally-prepped Mini is still on the move and doing well in the standings.

The weather is currently warmer than in most of the UK but the teams are contending with heavy rain through most of the stages, which has been an issue for many of the classic rally cars.

40-50 teams have already retired from the event including 4 of the 14 Mini entrants.

Later tonight teams will return to the Col de Turini, a steep mountain pass that requires expert navigation and driver concentration. Peter and Willy are hoping for plenty of fog so that they can make use of their experience of the stage and barely slow down.

The rally will finish at 4.30 tomorrow morning! See the Monte Carlo Historic website for the latest results and updates.
