Countdown to IMM 2009
Tuesday 13th May 2008
The countdown to IMM 2009 started on 11 May when members of the Birmingham Mini Owners Club formally accepted the IMM key from the Dutch Mini People, organisers of the recent International Mini Meeting 2008, at the closing ceremony in Lelystad, Netherlands.
Each year, the organisers of the IMM hand over the IMM key to the next organising club.
The new incumbents then have one year to get the next IMM ready and it is a fearsome task.
Typically the IMM is in a European country during the mainland May Whitsun holiday weekend.
The huge English IMM happens every five years and is usually in the summer.
BMOC happens to be organising the IMM in the Mini's 50th year and their venue will be Cofton Park, Longbridge, on August 7, 8, 9, 2009.
One of the organisers, Mike Price, said “We have had lots of offers of help from Mini clubs and we're going to put on the best event that we can!” It will be the focal point of all the celebrations of Mini's 50th birthday. Keep an eye on www.imm2009.co.uk.
It has also been confirmed that the 2010 IMM will be held in Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz, Germany and will be organised by the FanClub Mini Bavaria.
